Greeting From Dr. Bob

I hope everyone had a smile-filled holiday season! As always it was great to spend time with family and friends.  It was even better to see some of that ACS (Awesome California Sunshine). Boy we are spoiled!!

What a year 2010 was!!  I get really excited when I think how far we have come as a team from one year to the next, and even more excited to set new goals and aspirations for the practice.  A new year brings the beauty of new growth, new potential and new seasons.  We are ready!

Here at the office we want to continue bringing excellent care to our patients as well as expanding the types of treatment available including sedation dentistry and an improved periodontal program.

We have a lot of hard work planned, but also a lot of hard earned fun including our annual dental conference in Las Vegas!!  We promise to keep you posted.

Happy New Year and may your 2011 be filled with kindness.  Be good to yourself!  Oh and don’t forget to look for our newest quarterly drawing.

To your health,

Dr. Bob

Start the Year Off Right, Treat Your Teeth

People make New Year’s resolutions about everything from vacations to getting organized. However, we often forget about a very simple one to keep, dental exams and cleanings.

This year resolve to come in for your annual check-up and cleanings.  It is an easy way to be good to yourself and your body.  It really can make all the difference.   Your mouth is the gateway to your whole body and a healthy mouth makes a healthy body.  Feel better.  Get on track. If you are overdue for a cleaning or exam, or can’t even remember the last time you were in, give us a call.  Clean teeth and a health mouth are just a phone call away!

Feel Younger, Look Refreshed

Nothing makes a person feel younger and fresher than a nice bright smile!  If you’ve noticed that yours could use a bit of brightening, then we have the answers for you!

If you’ve never whitened before, no need to worry, we have lots of experience!  Teeth whitening, or bleaching, is for most types of patients and can be done in the privacy of your own home, or here at the office.

We offer three types of whitening processes, in three price ranges to fit any budget.

The first is an in office treatment that takes about 2 hours and you leave with immediate results.

The second option, custom trays, take 2 visits (one to make the tray, and one to pick up them).  These trays fit your specific teeth and allow you to purchase refills and use them for as long as you have your teeth, and we hope that’s forever!

The last option is a product we all love called Tres Whites.  These are disposable strips you wear 30mins to an hour at a time.  They are easy, portable and fit great in your suitcase for that upcoming wedding!

If you have a special occasion coming up and you want to dazzle, or just feel like freshening up your already great smile, whitening might be for you.   Give us a call, or talk to your hygienist at your next cleaning appointment.

***Oh, and if you already have custom trays, we carry refills in different strengths too.

New Certifications in Sedation Dentistry

Do you know what it’s like to be scared?  I mean really, really scared.  Sometimes it’s the sweaty palms kind of fear.  And sometimes it feels like a paralyzing fear.  There are millions of people affected by fear when it comes to seeing the dentist.  It can range from mild anxiousness to a severe phobia that keeps people away from seeking the dental care they need.

In an effort to reach out to these patients, our staff has recently completed a certification for Oral Conscious Sedation.  Now, we offer fear-free, compassionate treatment where many patients have little, if no memory of the entire appointment.

Sedation dentistry is not only beneficial for the fearful patient but also for patients with severe gag reflexes or patients with complex treatment cases.

Imagine having all of your dental work done at one appointment in a safe, comfortable atmosphere with the Team know knows you best.

We understand if you are fearful, and it is OK that you are.  You are not alone and we would love to be there for not only your dental needs, but your emotional ones too.

Remarkable Recipes

This quarter's recipe comes from our very own Dental Assistant, Bethany

Beth’s Pan Fried Potato Cake

2 lbs white potatoes, peeled and cut into ¼” slices
2 tbsp bacon fat
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp minced parsley
1 tsp minced garlic
Salt and fresh ground pepper to taste

  1. Bring potatoes to a boil in salted water, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 20-30 minutes until tender.  Drain and chill potatoes in large bowl.
  2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Melt butter and bacon fat and pour over potatoes.  Season with salt and pepper; toss to coat.  Transfer potatoes to 6” cast-iron or oven proof skillet.  Cook over medium heat partially covered with lid allowing steam to escape.  Continue cooking while smashing potatoes into skillet with metal spatula, until edges begin to crisp and brown, about 30 minutes.
  3. When finished transfer skillet to oven and bake uncovered 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.  To check, use fork to lift one edge of potato cake.  Invert skillet over plate to turn out.  Garnish with garlic and parsley.
  4. Serve hot.  Makes 4 big servings!

Each quarter a recipe from one of our patients will be featured here. Email your submissions to matiasevich@aim.com and type RECIPE in the subject.

Oral cancer screening

Did you know that you have an oral cancer screening each and every time you have a cleaning or exam?  Here at Dr. Bob’s office we are concerned for you and know that early detection is essential in keeping you safe and sound.

Not only do you get a visual oral cancer screening by our staff with advanced training, but we also have some nifty tools to help out.  If there is something that appears to need some additional attention, not to fear, we have the Vel-Scope!!

The Vel-Scope is a new technology that allows us to detect oral lesions using a special light invisible to the eye.  It is painless, takes only seconds and might be just what the doctor ordered.

If something in your mouth is bothering you, let us know.  And if not, know that we are looking out for you each time you come in to visit.  It’s just our little way of say we care.

In-Office Training

In continuing effort to provide you with excellent care, the office will be closed Tuesday February 22nd thru Thursday February 24th for an advanced periodontal training program.

We will reopen again on Monday February 28th.   We look forward to telling you all about it in the next newsletter!!
