Dangerous Denture Cream

Denture cream.  A phrase many people don’t even like to say, let alone admit they use.  However, if you are one of the millions of people using denture creams, you’re already aware they taste bad, smell bad and are generally messy.  I have never had a patient tell me they like to use denture cream.  Those reasons alone are more than enough for many patients to say “I’ve had it!” and to get their dental implant treatment done using my unique methods of dentistry.

Now, you can add one more reason to say goodbye to denture cream and gain secure, comfortable, beautiful teeth that help preserve your facial bone using dental implants.

Toxic denture cream…..

A recent scientific report in a medical journal (Neurology June 2008) found several patients in which zinc poisoning was a result of their denture cream.  Neurology is the study of the body’s electrical system (the nervous system).  While it’s technically pretty complicated and there is more research to be done on this topic.

As these patients found, even minor changes in the amount of electrical particles (ions) that operate the human electrical system can have disastrous results.

What were the symptoms?

Some of the symptoms in the studied patients wearing denture cream included:

  • Numbness and weakness in the arms and legs resulting in wheelchair dependence.
  • Urinary tract infection (bladder infection)
  • Mental cognitive decline
  • Hand weakness and numbness
  • Poor balance
  • Progressive numbness
  • Loss of sense of vibration
  • Poor muscular coordination

It should be noted these were patients in their 40’s and not long- term adhesive wearers!

If you’ve been putting off getting rid of the denture cream, this truly is one of the most profound reasons to find a way to make your implants happen.  If you have questions or want solutions to this messy problem don’t hesitate to call the office and set up a consultation.

I’d love to be the first person to shake your hand (or even give you a hug!) when we finish your care.

To your health,

Dr. Bob

Becoming a Fellow

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.”  – Pat Riley

The goal of my practice is to restore people to full life and health.  We are committed to being excellent in what we say and what we do.  One of the ways we foster excellence in my practice is through continuing education.  That way we all stay up to date on all the most innovative new treatment and cutting edge technology.

I recently returned from a trip to the California Implant Institute in San Diego, where I went to visit Dr. Louie Al-Faraje.  I had the opportunity to be one of a small percentage of doctors around the globe to be trained under Dr. Al-Faraje and receive a hard earned Fellowship in the prestigious California Implant Institute.

Not only is Dr. Al-Faraje  a Diplomat in the American Board of Oral Implantology and Academic Chairman of the California Implant Institute, but he is a real jet-setter,  constantly traveling all of the world teaching his innovative solutions for dental patients who have lost, or about to lose all of their teeth and wearing dentures.

The future of missing teeth

It has been estimated that the number of people in the USA to be missing all of their natural teeth will double from 2010 to 2020. Obviously, there will be an audience looking for treatment options that are comfortable and allow good function and esthetics.

Implants eliminate messy adhesives, removing your dentures at night, embarrassment of dentures slipping during speech or smiling or the bad breath associated with wearing dentures.  Implants allow you to eat the foods you love, the freedom to smile, laugh at will, and live life to the fullest.

Technology that is changing people’s lives

With these new procedures, patients have a “fixed” prosthesis, where the new teeth are permanently anchored in place.  The new permanent teeth come closer to being just like natural teeth at a more economical cost than other comparable methods previously.

For example, The All-on-Four technique utilizes four dental implants to attach a new set of permanent replacement teeth.  The implants used in this procedure are specially designed for immediate function (putting the teeth on right away) and typically do not require expensive bone grafting.  Traditional approaches utilize 8-12 implants and usually bone grafting, increasing the cost for the patient.

In many cases, patients lacking the bone volume required to support traditional implants are able to enjoy the many benefits of a permanent solution to missing teeth with this All-on-4 procedure.

Beautiful teeth in one day

Due to the rigid structure of the replacement teeth and the anchorage provided by the dental implants, patients can go home that same day or the next, with new permanent teeth, even when extractions of hopeless teeth are involved.

If you have missing teeth or denture problems, there is hope.   Please call the office and set up a consultation.

To your health,

Dr. Bob
